The dream for a drug and alcohol rehab started in the heart and life of Ray and Pat Evers approximately 40 years ago. At that time, they were helping individuals by putting them in camper trailers and working with them one-on-one. For the ones who needed more help, Pastor Evers referred them to Teen Challenge. He understood the importance of a long-term Bible based discipleship program. Ray realized early on that God had called him to run a facility for men. He was preparing to open a small center when Bob Stewart contacted him. Bob asked Ray to join the board of directors for a rehab he was opening in Deport, Texas. Bob was soon called home to be with the Lord and Ray Evers was asked to continue Bob’s dream, which paralleled his own.
It has been a miraculous journey because the facility called for a complete makeover. The startup required training and equipping leaders, along with preparing material and equipment to minister to drug addicts and alcoholics. There was $30 in the bank when Ray and Pat took over the project. They began in 2013 by opening one of the six wings of the building, as well as the large classroom and kitchen.
Almost 5 years later, after starting with little money and little promotion, the entire building is fully functioning and full of men receiving treatment for their life controlling addictions. Texas Dream Center now has over 30 graduates with over 30 currently in the program. The center receives calls every day from men who are seeking help. This has led to our hopes of extending the program to other cities with additional facilities. Ray currently serves as Administrator and Pat is the Executive Secretary, along with a full staff of employees. The Texas Dream Center has become a well-established rehab recognized by law enforcement, judges, probation officers, churches, and communities all over.
